Michael
Sean Sullivan LLB, LLM (Wash) Mike Sullivan set up New Zealand's first dedicated ocean and coastal marine law practice in December 1998, following on from his specialist practice in Nelson. Prior to this, Mike was the regional Solicitor with the Ministry of Fisheries, based in Nelson, with responsibility for the central New Zealand region. During his time with the Ministry of Fisheries, Mike prosecuted over 250 cases. Mike is one of the country's foremost experts in the area of fisheries law and is the principal author of a textbook on fisheries law in New Zealand. Mike has written numerous reports and reviews of various legal issues confronting the ministry and fisheries issues over the years and been involved in formulating fisheries management policy, drafting fisheries legislation, regulations and amendments to the law and has written several papers on New Zealand's quota management system.

William
J Nielander LLB, JD, LLM (Tulane) Bill Nielander is the principal partner of the law firm William J Nielander, Florida and has wide experience in fisheries law internationally. He has worked as an attorney and legal consultant for the United States, New Zealand and Australian fisheries agencies. His experience includes drafting fisheries, aquaculture and coral reef legislation, prosecuting fisheries violations and advising fisheries managers on policy issues. He also has several years experience in maritime law, commercial transactions and corporate law and holds a Masters degree in maritime law from the prestigious Tulane School of Law in Louisiana. He has advised inter alia on policy, enforcement, fisheries monitoring methods, management and operations; drafted fisheries regulations in ITQ and open access fisheries.

Peter
Charles Dawson BA LLB (Stellenbosch) Peter Dawson set up a dedicated maritime and fisheries practice in October 1996 following on from a career as a partner in Field and Sims, South Africa's first Maritime Legal practice. Whilst at Field and Sims he developed considerable expertise in maritime matters acting for owners, cargo and insurers. Since commencing his own practice he has gained wide international experience in fisheries and export matters and has become recognised as one of the leading experts in Fisheries law in Southern Africa, including Namibia, Mozambique, Seychelles and Mauritius. He has drafted fisheries legislation in South Africa and has advised industry on policy. Peter has a strong commercial background, particularly in the areas of the purchase and sale of vessels, and registration of and flagging of vessels in various jurisdictions around the world and drafting commercial agreements in the fisheries sectors.

Stephen
Thompson Stephens areas of expertise are maritime and transport & trade. Stephen worked in the transport industry for 15 years and advises clients in the transport industry on negotiation and drafting of contracts and agreements, carriage of goods by sea, air and land, ship arrest and Admiralty and salvage. Stephen is managing partner of the Middletons Sydney office. Prior to joining Middletons, Stephen ran the Transport law practice of another Sydney law firm, having previously worked with shipping specialists Hill Taylor Dickinson in London. On the invitation of the Federal Court, Stephen has participated in several working groups addressing the potential for reform of the Admiralty Act. Stephen is accredited by the NSW Law Society as a specialist in commercial litigation. He is a Notary Public and a board member of the Maritime Law Association of Australia and New Zealand.
