Oceanlaw International

Over the past twenty years there have been dramatic changes in the structure of fisheries and associated maritime trade. This has given rise to a complex maze of legal rules and requirements (both at a domestic and international level), that seek to regulate the activities of vessel owners and operators, fishing enterprises and the harvesting of living marine resources. In addition, new international agreements implemented in the early nineties herald a new era of High Seas Fisheries Management that will place increasing demands on fishing industry participants.

In response, a number of niche legal firms with highly specialised expertise in maritime trade, fisheries and aquaculture have worked in different jurisdictions. The legal issues faced by clients and their lawyers in these jurisdictions, however, have many common features.

Oceanlaw International is a new organisation that pools the resources of its individual, specialist firms spanning the globe and provides access to multi-jurisdictional advice to a wide range of clients in the maritime, fisheries and aquaculture sectors.

Oceanlaw International is dedicated to meeting the specialist demands of the fishing, aquaculture and related maritime industries in the 21st Century.
